Thanks to a surge in popularity on social media platforms and in the media, women are becoming increasingly aware, and even self-conscious, of their pubic area. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) reports that around 10,000 labiaplasty procedures are done each year. While there’s no such thing as a “normal” labia, women with elongated labia minora (inner labia) or labia majora (outer labia) can experience discomfort during daily activities such as exercise, intercourse, or even from wearing certain pants and bathing suits.
The labiaplasty procedure is a relatively simple procedure that can improve both the appearance and function of the female labia. It can be performed using local anesthesia with minimal downtime. Most can return to daily activities within two to five days after their procedure, and sexual activity within a few weeks.
Dr. Mary Gingrass and Dr. Melinda Haws both specialize in the labiaplasty procedure and have provided this surgical option since the opening of the Plastic Surgery Center of Nashville in 2002.
